Start meeting the challenges of teaching students whose first language is not English. Earn your endorsement as an undergraduate student, specialize your master’s degree, or add the credential to an existing Ohio license. After six rigorous courses, you can thrive in today’s multicultural classrooms and comply with all Ohio regulations pertaining to English Language Learners.
In this comprehensive accredited program, all required 100 field hours are spread throughout your coursework and final, semester-long practicum.
Complete field hours in your own classroom, within your own building, or at a local placement arranged for you. At the graduate level, all courses are offered online.
Elise Geither, Ph.D.
Adjunct Professor
Elise Geither, Ph.D. has worked with international students in higher education
for over 20 years. She has developed and worked in Intensive English Language
Programs, university programs and K-12 ESL
initiatives. Dr. Geither holds a Ph.D. in urban education and an M.A. in English from Cleveland State University.
Dr. Geither's research includes support, stress and anxiety, and orientation programs for international students in universities, and her book on writing support for students on the spectrum is used widely in writing centers across the US. Her young adult novel, e Deer, was released in September 2017.
Dr. Geither currently directs the teaching assistant and international teaching assistant program at a local university and supports students through English for Specic Purposes programs and spoken English and culture courses. She works closely with companies in China to develop materials for spoken English programs.
